2021 Wachenheimer Riesling Village trocken Dr. Bürklin-Wolf

Wachenheimer Village

The 2021 Wachenheimer Riesling Village trocken of Dr. Bürklin-Wolf is a “village” appellation, VDP Ortswein. Wachenheim is the area where most of the vineyards of the winery are located. The enologist has chosen to use part of grapes grown in the Premier Cru appellations, like Wachenheimer Altenburg, to improve the quality of this Ortswein.

Straw color, complex aromas of white and yellow fruit, citrus fruit and apple, mineral notes in the nose. On the palate, this wine shows a nice complexity. It is dry and fresh, without any aggressive acidity. Long finish. Village Rieslings, in my opinion, are some of the best bets, since they have a great price-quality-relationship. Highly recommended. This is a wine I could have every day.

2021 Hommage à Louise

Hommage à Louise

2021 Hommage à Louise is an off-dry Riesling. It is dedicated to Louise Bürklin, one of the ancestors of the current owner Bettina Bürklin-von Guradze. Dr. Bürklin-Wolf is known as the producer of dry German Riesling from the Palatinate, and was called the “King of Dry Riesling” by the Gault-Millaut guide. Thus, creating an off-dry Riesling was a bit of an adventure for them, but it sold very well.

Straw colour as all young Rieslings, with a slight greenish reflex. This wine is fruity in the nose, white fruit, apple and a citrus touch dominating, with some flowery notes. On the palate, this wine is off-dry. It does not lack minerality. Medium acidity, the wine is pleasant, albeit a bit flat and its finish not very long. A wine to enjoy on the terrace or by the pool side.

2021 Riesling trocken Dr. Bürklin-Wolf

2021 Riesling trocken

I have been tasting this wine, 2021 Riesling trocken Dr. Bürklin-Wolf, the basic Riesling of biodynamic winery Dr. Bürklin-Wolf, every year since the 2013 vintage, and it has always convinced me as being a true reflection of the Riesling grape. VDP Gutswein. Dry, mineral (firestone), with citric fruit, apple, some herbal notes. Complex in the nose. Fruity and fresh in the mouth. The 2021 had a slightly higher acidity than the previous year (2020). 12% alc. A beautiful wine.

2013 Gutswein Charta Kabinett Baron Knyphausen

Charta Riesling Kabinett

The 2013 Gutswein Charta Kabinett Baron Knyphausen has everything you would expect from a great Rheingau Riesling. The fruit aromas, the mineral notes, the refreshing acidity.

Charta was a private organisation in the Rheingau which aims at cultivating the typicality of the Rheingau Rieslings. Wines are tasted by professionals in the region, and only if approved the wine can be called Charta. In a way, Charta wines were predecessors of what today are the GG (Grand Cru, Grosses Gewächs) wines in the VDP classification. Charta was merged with the Rheingau section of the VDP.

Colour is straw with slight golden reflexes. In the nose, it shows complex and intense aromas of citric fruits, grapefruit, with very nice mineral notes. This wine is fresh, dry, medium and pleasant acidity, with a perfectly balanced structure. The finish is long. This wine is really excellent. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10 years.

A great Rheingau Riesling.
