2020 Givry 1er Cru “Pied de Chaumes” Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume

2020 Givry 1er Cru Pied de Chaumes

After tasting this 2020 Givry 1er Cru Pied de Chaumes, made by Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume, I understand why King Henry IV chose the Givry 1er Cru as his favourite wine! Well, he didn’t exactly taste this wine….

Ruby colour with slight violet reflexes. In the nose, red dark fruit – blueberry, plum, dark cherry. A touch of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is dry, round, with medium-low acidity and velvety tannins that are nicely integrated. Long and pleasant finish. A great, elegant wine. Ready to enjoy now, but certainly will improve even more over the next 5 to 10 years. Available in Brazil at @vinhos.primeur of @elainelencastre!

2010 Château Montrose

Château Montrose

The 2010 Château Montrose is one of my favorite Bordeaux wines. I have tasted many vintages of this wine. 1990 probably was the best, as far as I remember. This vintage comes close! In my opinion, it should be a 1er Cru, not 2nd. But the classification was made in 1855…

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is ruby red. On the nose it is intense and complex. Aromas of dark red fruit, blackberry, cigar-box, vanilla, cassis, chocolate, dark cherry and blackcurrant. On the palate, it is voluptuous, round, and dry, with silky tannins, medium-low acidity, with a perfectly balanced, complex and well-structured structure. The finish is endless. This wine is masterpiece. This wine is ready to drink now, but will last well at least for another 25 years. Decanting of the 2010 Château Montrose is recommended, at least 45min-1hr before tasting.

2020 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume

2020 Bourgogne Pinot Noir

The 2020 Bourgogne Pinot Noir of Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume is a wonderful Pinot Noir with an incredible quality-price relationship. A red wine of the basic category in Burgundy, this wine offers much more than a “simple” wine.

Purple colour with slight violet reflexes. In the nose, complex aromas of red fruit – cherry, blue plum, blueberry, with lovely vanilla notes (really remembers a wonderful plum cake, quite mouth watering). On the palate, the wine is dry, with medium acidity, tannins present but integrated, long finish. Quite a dangerous wine, you may wish to open the second bottle quickly! In Brazil, this wine is available at Primeur Vinhos of @elainelencastre and @vitorcnmoraes.

2020 Bouzeron Aligoté

2020 Bouzeron Aligoté

2020 Bouzeron Aligoté is a white wine from this appellation which honours a specific grape: Aligoté. Bouzeron is close to Rully, but also to Chassagne-Montrachet. Its soil is limestone-dominated: it is white oxfordian marl (which was followed by kimmeridgian, the type of soil encountered in Chablis. Watch this video to get an impression of the terroir).  Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume uses the grapes from a small vineyard, only 0,4 hectares in size. The harvest is manual. After short settling of the must, the grapes are pressed, without destemming. Fermentation in vats, maturation takes place in barriques for 12 months (only 10-15% new). JB Jessiaume does not like to overly “oak” his white wines.

The colour is straw, with slight greenish reflexes. In the nose, you note white fruit, particularly white peach. Notes of acacia and white flowers, also a mineral touch. On the palate, the wine is dry, fresh, with hints of citric fruit in addition to the aromas found in the nose. Long and pleasant finish. This 2020 Bouzeron Aligoté really positively surprised me.
